If your children are budding lifeguards, then the Rookie Lifeguard Award developed by the Royal Lifesaving Society UK in conjunction with the ASA and the LTS, could be just what you are looking for.As well as offering parents the comfort of knowing their children are aware of the dangers of swimming in open water, the Bronze, Silver and Gold stage awards ensure children have a solid safety education, and have learned rescue and resuscitation techniques.
Our Rookie Lifeguard classes are run in full accordance with the junior award scheme of the RLSS UK. Rookie Programme which is also part of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) developed by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA). For most children, 'Rookie Lifeguard' will be the first opportunity to explore water safety and alternative safe aquatic play.
The Rookie skills make all participating children aware of how to take better care of themselves, their family and friends, and give them the information they need to always promote water safety in their day to day activities. The awards contain survival, rescue and sports skills as well as Life Support and water safety elements.Rookie Lifeguard is primarily aimed at children aged between 8 - 12 years, although most of the skills can be taught to people of all ages.
Starting with Stage 1 of the Bronze Award and progressing through to Stage 3 of the Gold Award, Rookie Lifeguard begins at an ability level suitable for swimmers who have just learned to swim and progresses right through to the level of performing Lifesaving rescues and tows. Here at Rusalka we alternate lessons weekly between Rookie and Stroke Development Technique, to keep the overall course varied and interesting for the children at all times.
